CHROMEXCEL
- Aniline finish
Water-soluble pigments called aniline dyes are used to stain the leather. The leather can then be polished or glazed with a pigment-free finish.
- Semi-aniline finish
Similar to an aniline finish, but with a thin layer of protective pigment added to the surface. This provides some durability and stain resistance while still allowing the leather’s natural texture and grain to show.
- Pigmented leather
A flat surface color is applied to the leather using a roller or spray. This can be done on top of or instead of the usual dye finish. Pigmentation is often used to add durability and hide blemishes.
- Suede
The underside of the hide is used to create a soft and fuzzy leather.
- Nubuck
A top-grain leather that has been sanded or buffed on the grain side to create a velvet-like surface.
- Bicast leather
A type of leather split made by covering the horizontal middle split of the hide with polyurethane and then embossing it.

Chromexcel Leather

Chromexcel is the original pull-up leather, utilizing time-honored techniques and formulations that were developed nearly 100 years ago. Chromexcel is still manufactured in the United States, where it is retanned from bark using a proprietary formula and then real hot-stuffed with our proprietary blend of natural oils and greases. Chromexcel is distinguished by its complete aniline, hand-rubbed finishes, which are characterized by a rich pull-up. Chromexcel, which is still manufactured today with the same old-world craftsmanship, has a rich history of exceptional durability and comfort.
Chromexcel is accessible in a comprehensive assortment of weights, ranging from 3.5 to 4 ounces (1.4 to 1.6 mm) for horsefronts and side (cowhide) leather to 9 to 10 ounces (3.6 to 4.0 mm) for side (cowhide) leather. Chromexcel is available in a variety of forms, including versions that are impermeable and cementable.
